Candysound, The Mission Orange, Keaton Collective – Jan 15 – Cabin Tavern
Up first, Candysound delivered out some great alt-rock melodies. There’s something so refreshing about this band. They brought me back to the days when Built To Spill and Jimmy Eat World were on heavy rotation in my ancient portable walkman. After playing an emotionally-charged set, they finished up to an appreciative crowd and started a good buzz the following acts.
The Mission Orange was a band I’d heard a lot about, but never seen live.Another two-piece, MO rocked the crowd with a barrage of prog-rock melodies. They were a good transition between Candysound and Keaton Collective since they draw from similar influences; i.e. Pinback and Built to Spill.
I reviewed Keaton Collective’s debut album The Wash a couple months back, and I truly fell in love with it. The thing about this band that really jumps out at me is their quirkiness; they like to bounce back and forth with genres, and their sound is composed of layer upon layer of vocal and instrumental harmony. This was made much more apparent live and up close. The nine man band played a high-energy, get-up-on-your-feet show.
